One of FBC's local missions is the Higgins Elementary/FBC BackPack Club!
One of our members is a teacher at Higgins and became aware of students in the school having no food to eat over the weekend.  A lot of the students are the Child Nutrition Program and have access to free or reduced price breakfasts and lunches however, they do not have anything on the weekends.  That's where the BackPack Club comes to the rescue!

There are several teams in the BackPack Club of volunteers.  We have a team who goes to the East Texas Food Bank and picks up the food packets on Thursday.  We have another team who comes in after the food is delivered to Higgins on Thursday to pack the food in the backpacks.  We have another team on Friday mornings who distribute the backpacks to the students.  Then we have another team who comes on Monday mornings to check in and clean the returned backpacks to get them ready for the process to repeat on Thursday!

If your schedule lets you participate in this ministry we invite you to sign up below.  If because of your work schedule you can't participate during the year, we are always looking for financial support - $156 will provide a student a packet of food each week during the school year!
